IN THEIR OWN WORDS

Success Stories

Reentry told by the people who lived it, and how to share your own story on your terms.

These reentry success stories are told by the people who lived them. Almost everything written about prison reform is written about people who have been incarcerated. Very little is written by them, or with them. This section exists to change that on this site.

Why Reentry Success Stories Matter

Research tells you that 66% of people released from state prisons are rearrested within three years, and that the risk is highest in the first year (Bureau of Justice Statistics). What it does not tell you is what that first year is actually like — the specific moments where things nearly went wrong, and what made the difference when they did not.

That knowledge sits with people who have lived it. It is practically useful to someone preparing for release, and it is the part of the picture policy research structurally cannot supply.

Share Your Story

If you have been through incarceration and reentry — or supported someone who has — and you would be willing to share what you learned, we would like to hear from you.
